It looks like Microsoft's rumored smartwatch may actually head to production one of these day. Apparently, the Xbox team has handed the project over to the Surface team for testing. That sounds like a step in the right direction to us.

Microsoft's elusive smartwatch prototype is reportedly being designed to compete directly with Apple's rumored "iWatch" — wait, where's the iWatch? Anyone? Microsoft's rumored smartwatch is just one of many such devices rumored to be in the works by the likes of Samsung, LG, and others who are racing to beat Apple to the so-called "iWatch." So far, no company has really made a smartwatch that nails it; not even the much-hyped Pebble.

The removable wrist bands are expected to come in blue, red, yellow, black, white and grey. And, the watches are coated in Oxynitride Aluminum, according to AmongTech. That's a translucent aluminum that's supposedly three times harder than glass.

A modified version of Windows 8 is being used during testing and some of the concepts are rumored to have 6GB of internal storage (plenty more storage in the cloud) and an LTE connection. Interesting.
